Who/What is N.H.M.R.O.

The New Hampshire Motorcyclists’ Rights Organization (NHMRO) was founded in February of 1975 by a group of men and women who felt that their way of life and freedoms were being systematically taken away.

NHMRO was incorporated as a non-profit organization, under the laws of the State of New Hampshire and the Internal Revenue tax codes, for the sole purpose of restoring certain freedoms lost and retaining freedoms that had not yet been tampered with.

In support of NHMRO’s purpose we welcome any and all motorcyclists as part of the organization so that they may help us in protecting the rights of ALL motorcyclists regardless of their preference in motorcycles, life styles, or where, when and how they enjoy riding.

We also encourage ALL motorcyclists to register and actively participate in helping to elect candidates who are supportive of our beliefs.

NHMRO supports the VOLUNTARY use of helmets, not mandatory laws.

What Have We Accomplished ?

NHMRO’s first victory was to defeat the proposed 1975 mandatory motorcycle headlight bill in New Hampshire.

Our second victory was our part in legislation preventing the DOT from withholding highway funding to the states without mandatory helmet laws. (This was in May of 1976. Not much has changed in the way Washington tries to blackmail the states.) We still fight every year to keep the state of New Hampshire Free and open to you to choose .

When the NH Legislature reconvened in January of 1977, NHMRO had an amendment filed to our mandatory helmet law exempting any rider over the age of 18. This was signed into law and took effect on August 7, 1977. (This made NHMRO the 1st rights group in the nation to do so.)

Since then NHMRO has been instrumental in defeating many attempts to pass a new helmet law or create a new lights-on law in NH.

NHMRO was “very” instrumental in the creation of a state sponsored MSF course in NH and even financed the training of the first group of instructors.

NHMRO has also worked closely with the state of New Hampshire on other issues of concern to the motorcyclists of the state such as: the motorcycle noise bill revisions of 1993; the law exempting motorcycles manufactured prior to 1973 from the law requiring directional signals; and the introduction of a bill to exempt motorcycles from the child restraint law.

NHMRO has also produced the 1991 MSF national award winning public service spots for television promoting motorcycle awareness. We have produced and distributed anti drinking and riding posters throughout the state. We have convinced our previous and current Governors to officially proclaim May as “Motorcycle Awareness Month” and we distribute posters and bumpers stickers to local businesses and schools to raise public awareness.

106 decibels NHMRO has Stood for You

Under state law, motorcycles’ noise levels are limited to 106 decibels under a series of conditions. This means most after market parts will still be able to be put on your bike.

The New Hampshire Motorcycle Rider Training Program

NHMRO is proud of our role in establishing a rider training program for the motorcyclists of New Hampshire. We worked closely with the legislature to establish the program and even provided financing to train the first group of instructors.

We strongly believe that education (not legislation) paves the road to motorcycle safety and encourage both new and experienced riders alike to avail themselves of this program.

The New Hampshire Motorcycle Training Program is offered by the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles with the objective of making your riding a safer and more enjoyable experience.

These training course are available to New Hampshire residents only and are designed to enhance your street survival skills by teaching the safe operation of a motorcycle. Whatever your age or experience, they have the training you need.

New Hampshire Motor Rights Organizaton Toy Run for the Salvation Army

Every September we hold our annual NHMRO Toy Run which thousands of bikes collects thousands of toys which are distributed by the Salvation Army to needy children throughout the state of New Hampshire. We have been doing this for over 28 years. Making tears of joy in the heats of children in the state of New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Motorcycle Rights Organization . Has and will be there & Has proven it with hundreds of motorcycle turning out to help the Salvation Army & the needy children in New Hampshire.

N.H.M.R.O. & Salvation Army would like to thank all those that helped with the Toy Run Sept 7, 2008. It was very hard this year due to the hardship that most people are in and the rain storm that came through Sat. The Salvation Amy could not be there to give out coffee and such in Concord as they were helping out families in the state due to the storm. Some of our road guards also were helping out families in the state. Governor John Lynch and Mayor Frank Guinta could not be at the Union Leader to speak due to the flooding. We would like to thank the people for stepping into the Toy Run at the last minute to help out. The route changed at the last minute due to flooding in Hooksett, so it was a scramble to get a new route at the last minute. The good people of New Hampshire pulled together and saved the day. That shows how much we care about the kids. We here at N.H.M.R.O. can not express our thanks for all the help. Again, we thank you for giving a day out of your life to help a child in need. This day was for the children, not for anyone else. We must all do our part to help one another. The sun did come out that day. People made new friends & rode with the wind in their face. And gave a gift that will make a child smile.

N.H.M.R.O. would like to thank all of you for helping the kids . We all have responsibilities. Its great when we all do a little more for each other. These are memories that we are making for these kids . The smiles that will be made will make tears of joy in our hearts.
