Motorcycle Awareness & Safety

As a motorist or a passenger, there are some steps to become more aware of motorcyclists.

Respect the motorcyclist:

Remember the motorcycle is a vehicle with all of the privileges of any vehicle on the roadway. Give the motorcyclist a full lane of travel.

Look out:

Look for the motorcyclist on the highway, at intersections, when a motorcyclist may be making a left turn, and when a motorcyclist may be changing lanes. Clearly signal your intentions.

Anticipate a motorcyclist's maneuver:

Obstructions (debris, potholes, etc.) that you may ignore or not notice can be deadly for a motorcyclist. Predict evasive actions.

Allow plenty of space:

Don't follow a motorcycle too closely. Allow enough room for the motorcyclist to take evasive actions.

The New Hampshire Motorcycle Rider Training Program

Training A New Generation of Motorcyclists

The New Hampshire Motorcycle Rider Training Program

NHMRO is proud of our role in establishing a rider training program for the motorcyclists of New Hampshire. We worked closely with the legislature to establish the program and even provided financing to train the first group of instructors.

We strongly believe that education (not legislation) paves the road to motorcycle safety and encourage both new and experienced riders alike to avail themselves of this program.

The New Hampshire Motorcycle Training Program is offered by the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles with the objective of making your riding a safer and more enjoyable experience.

“Crash Course for Motorcyclists”

Hi, Bob, We received your link for NHMRO from Paul Cote of MSSF and MMA. We are instructors for a national non-profit company, Accident Scene Management, Inc., out of Wisconsin. We reside in Merrimac, MA. The course we teach is called a “Crash Course for Motorcyclists” and it teaches motorcyclists and riders what to do in the event they come upon or are involved in a MC crash. It’s not something that we as riders like to think about, however the skills that we teach could help save another MC’s life. The course is specifically oriented to motorcyclists because the most likely person to be at the scene of a motorcycle accident is another motorcyclist. The program has been around since 1996, but only in the New England area for two years since we traveled to Wisconsin to become certified. We received a grant from MSF to start the program, and have been endorsed by MMA. Currently we have taught 24 classes, two of which have been for Seacoast HOG.
If you would like any further information you can go to the website www.accidentscene.net. or click here Accident Scene If you would like additional resources please let us know. Any help that you could give us in letting other motorcyclists know that this program is available would be greatly appreciated. We do charge $40/person for the 7 hour class. This is not a riding class, but a first aid/trauma and safety program.
Yours truly, Gail and David Riley Instructors
PS: We are looking for additional instructors for this program. We will be instructor trainers for the northeast region after November1. To qualify you must be at least a current certified EMT B and ride a motorcycle
